Goodbyes

It’s so hard to say goodbye,
To the people who taught you to say hello.
A goodbye not meaning a farewell,
But in this case, it is so.

A simple wave of the hand,
A two syllable word;
It seems so simple
Yet the emotions behind it absurd.

Words unspoken,
Thoughts unheard,
Feelings unmatched
And sadness observed.

The last hug,
A tribute to the memories of the past
But a blinded future lays ahead,
For they thought a lifetime it would last.

’Tis what a goodbye signifies,
The end of something true
For a beginning to start,
It’s hard, the heart knew.
